It has been ten years since the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse investigated the period during the 1970s and 1980s, when abuse was deeply entrenched within the Satyananda Yoga Ashram at Mangrove Mountain, Australia. In the years since, efforts have been made to advocate for survivors, reform governance structures, and educate the yoga community about spiritual abuse. This paper examines the extent to which these educational and reform initiatives have been effective and asks whether they are sufficient to bring about lasting change and ensure the protection of individuals participating in contemporary yoga culture.
