Yoga Darśana Yoga Sādhana: authenticity, authority and adaptation
27-29 May 2026 Paris, France
The 4th International Yoga Darśana Yoga Sādhana conference will take place in Paris beginning Wednesday May 27 at 1:00 p.m. with official proceedings ending at 6:00 p.m. Friday evening May 29, 2026. The events are being organized in collaboration with the Center for South Asian and Himalayan Studies (CESAH) at the School for Advanced Social Sciences (EHESS - École de hautes études en sciences sociales) in Paris.
The conference will explore yoga’s popularity not only as a global practice, but also as an object of scholarly research, attested to by the exponentially increasing number of publications on yoga across a wide range of academic fields. We encourage dialogue and collaboration between scholars of the social sciences and humanities, who are critically exploring traditions, beliefs and practices associated with ‘yoga’ both in the past and the present.
Conference attendees are invited to join us in celebrating the event during an evening dinner cruise on the Seine Friday evening (small additional cost of 35 euros). We have also organized several additional outings on Saturday and Sunday for those able to stay in Paris (guided visit to two Parisian research institutions and/or hiking and bouldering in the Fontainebleau Forest).
Registration links for conference events and optional outings will be coming in mid-April for presenters who will need to pay the 120 euros conference fee. Free seats will be available for scholars who are not presenters but who wish to attend sessions (please note no meals included for non-presenters).
We look forward to welcoming you in Paris.
Organizing committee: Suzanne Newcombe, Raphaël Voix, Amandine Wattelier-Bricout, Ruth Westoby and Theo Wildcroft.
