Yoga Darśana Yoga Sādhana: authenticity, authority and adaptation
27-29 May 2026
Paris, France
The 4th International Yoga Darśana Yoga Sādhana conference will take place in Paris beginning Wednesday May 27 at 1:00 p.m. with official proceedings ending at 6:00 p.m. Friday evening May 29, 2026. The events are being organized in collaboration with the Center for South Asian and Himalayan Studies (CESAH) at the School for Advanced Social Sciences (EHESS - École de hautes études en sciences sociales) in Paris.
The conference will explore yoga’s popularity not only as a global practice, but also as an object of scholarly research, attested to by the exponentially increasing number of publications on yoga across a wide range of academic fields. We encourage dialogue and collaboration between scholars of the social sciences and humanities, who are critically exploring traditions, beliefs and practices associated with ‘yoga’ both in the past and the present.
Most events will take place in the Centre des colloques of the Campus Condorcet in Aubervilliers, just north of Paris but easily accessible by metro (Line 12 – stop Front Populaire). The organizing committee has selected over 120 papers, which will be distributed over 38 sessions.
We look forward to welcoming you in Paris.
Organizing committee: Suzanne Newcombe, Raphaël Voix, Amandine Wattelier-Bricout, Ruth Westoby and Theo Wildcroft.
